Situation
The client is a municipally owned electricity distribution company. The company required a new comprehensive strategy that addressed, among other factors, changes in the operating environment over a 5- and 10-year horizon. Central to this strategy was defining what the company should and should not do. The company was involved in several different associated companies (stakes), and functions were both outsourced and handled internally. Furthermore, issues such as transmission pricing, investments in security of supply (preparedness), and operational efficiency were key areas for consideration.
Objectives
The company's goal was to remain a vital and sustainable electricity distribution company while keeping its transmission prices at a reasonable level compared to the industry average. Measured by the distribution network, the company is the third largest in Finland per consumption site. The company needed a clear strategy to secure its vitality in the coming years and to guide the necessary decisions to achieve this.
