Support for a Power Transmission Company’s Strategy Work

SITUATION
The client is a municipality-owned electricity distribution system operator (DSO). The company required a new strategy that addresses, among other things, changes in the operating environment over a 5- and 10-year horizon. Central to the strategy were choices about what the company does and does not do. The company is involved in several associated companies, and functions are both outsourced and performed in-house. Furthermore, transmission pricing (or distribution pricing), security of supply investments, and operational efficiency were subjects for consideration.

OBJECTIVE
The company's goal is to be a vital electricity distribution company and to keep distribution prices at a reasonable level compared to the industry average. Measured by the distribution network, the company is the 3rd largest in Finland per connected site. The company needed a strategy on how this vitality could be secured in the coming years and what decisions this requires.
