A Sustainable operating model and foundation for future growth for Kemi’s cruise tourism

Business development, CUSTOMER REFERENCE, News release

Kemi is known as an Arctic gem whose potential in international cruise tourism is only partially tapped. The Vihreä matkailuaalto (Green Wave of Tourism) project develops the prerequisites for international cruise operations in Kemi and Lapland, and we had the privilege of serving as Kemi's cruise tourism expert in the project for nearly a year. The starting point for this development work was to raise awareness of Kemi among cruise lines and tour operators.

The project also strengthened other core areas: focusing on multi-season tourism offerings, expanding excursion and visitor options, designing a cruise operating model, and integrating local entrepreneurs more closely into the cruise experience year-round.

During the assignment, Kemi's cruise tourism was developed from the perspectives of both local collaboration and international sales. At the same time, destination marketing materials were renewed, themes for excursion destinations were created, and an annual calendar was established to support long-term cooperation and marketing efforts.

The collaboration yielded great results:

"Working with the consultant was highly collaborative and suited Kemi exceptionally well. Instead of just standard consulting work, our own staff gained additional skills and expertise that will remain in-house long after the project."

Additionally, the client praised our practical and hands-on approach.

The collaboration resulted in a comprehensive study and operating model report, providing Kemi with a solid operational foundation for the years ahead.
